Journey of 1000 miles.........first steps~

It's been a long time since I posted. I've spent the last year playing around with raw/vegan eating....between long periods of eating too much cheese and meat, etc... I was pretty sick weekend before last and went to the Dr. a week ago today. They were pretty sure I was having a mild heart attack, gave me aspirin & nitro and sent me for a nuclear stress test and a prescription for Lopressor for high blood pressure. The test did not support the heart attack diagnosis and showed that my heart is in good shape...no damage and good circulation.

But...
1. I have high blood pressure (so did my Dad) and am bound and determined NOT to stay on this med!
2. Have or had some kind of infection going on...undetermined so far.
3. I need to drop some weight to get the BP down.

So...
1. I have begun a low fat, low salt, low sugar vegan diet.
2.Have dropped 5 lbs so far over this past week.

Based on a combination of Joel Furhman's Eat to Live, The Rave Diet & Engine2....all plant-based food plans. The food is good and the "blandness" of it doesn't seem like an issue to me right now at all. McDougal is heavy on whole grains and I am incorporating that too...

So....what am I eating?

Greens (spinach, kale, broccoli, sprouts, bok choy...)
Veggies (carrots, peppers, cucumber, zucchini, onions, artichokes and so many more...)
Starchy Vegetables( potatoes, sweet potatoes, acorn squash...)
Fruit (apples, berries, melon, grapes, pineapple...)
Whole grains(brown rice, quinoa, millet, oatmeal, etc...)
Beans/Legumes
Small amount of seeds, nuts & avocado
Lots of water/lemon water/coconut water

B~ oatmeal w/flax meal, fresh peach, walnuts
L~Green salad, ezekial low sodium bread w/hummus
D~Corn tortilla w/fat free re-fried beans, brown rice, salsa & romaine......delicious!
S~Apple

Daily News 1-13-12

I decided to post daily or I will get lost and make myself crazy!!

From now on will be calling the indoor bike Trainer and the outdoor bike Steed,,why??? I don't know, except to tell them apart.

Fairly crappy day foodwise so far....several pieces of an oatmeal, whole grain bread I baked this morning and iced tea sweetened w/stevia for breakfast..........having a baked sweet potato in a few minutes...supper?? who knows.....badly planned or should I say completely unplanned day.

Rode Trainer for 22 minutes...that's 7 more than yesterday at one shot...3 miles!!! Awesome for me!!!!
Found that the book stand holds my tablet perfectly...watched part of Private Practice which made the time pass great....love that and will be doing that each time.

Countdown to Maine....26 weeks!!!

In 26 weeks I'm going to Maine w/my sisters and Mother for a week. I haven't been there to see my sister Nancy since Wes and I got married 11 1/2 years ago. I was the highest weight of my life on that trip..
..340 lbs.

I got back and saw my wedding pictures and just about died of shame. Spent the next three years dropping 141 lbs to 199 and I felt great...looked good...such a difference!!

I was doing great...going to curves 3x/week, walking 20-25 miles a week and I loved it...felt strong....felt more like I did as a kid for the first time as an adult, at least since my children were born. Then I hurt my back, two falls, spondylolisthesis, a disc herniation, severe spinal stenosis and nerve compression to my legs which caused/causes severe pain and inability to walk any distance. Over the last six years I have lost so much muscle mass, so much strength that I am starting at the very beginning, the bottom. I''ve regained 76 lbs of the weight I lost but I am not done....not by a long shot!!

When I go to Maine I will be so much further along then I am now toward my goal of being strong, energetic and thin. Yes, I have a long way to go, but the time will pass one way or another and now that I've found cycling and seen some improvement already I know I have found the right combination. Will I be perfect no.....but I will strive to do the next right thing.

I'm going to keep posting in this same thread to have continuity on my journey. I'm resolved~

The neverending sags continues.............

I had a great day food wise and exercise too!

Food-
B~Smoothie w/fresh orange juice, energy greens, spinach, blueberries & banana
L~ Same salad as yesterday, tons of veggies
S~Avocado/Cacao pudding, man was this good!
D~Steamed broccoli, carrot, red pepper, zucchini, celery & onion
wheat meat "chicken" with an orange sauce over jasmine rice & water...delicious!

Rode the stationary bike twice...once for 5 minutes and once for 7

Looking Forward~

I have two things that I am really looking forward to this year...

1. In February Grace is coming for a week. Can't wait to see her and spend time together AND ride the bikes to the beach!

2. In July Grace, Mom and hopefully Margaret and I are going to Maine to see Nancy for a week! That is going to be so much fun. I miss my Mother and my sisters!! I am planning of being strong enough by then to hold my own whatever we plan to do. ie...walking, bike riding, etc...I will NOT be left behind! It's a great incentive!!
